BReD’s Story
Plant-based sourdough, baked with purpose in Whistler
BReD is a 100% plant-based organic sourdough bakery in Creekside, Whistler, founded by husband-and-wife team Ed and Natasha Tatton.
Today, BReD makes naturally leavened sourdough loaves, baked goods, coffee, and pantry products from its small bakery at the original base of Whistler Mountain. Everything we do is rooted in simple ingredients, honest methods, and the belief that plant-based food should be joyful, satisfying, and easy to love.
We’re proud to be a certified B Corporation and BC Benefit Company, joining a global community of businesses using business as a force for good. For us, that means measuring success not only by profit, but by our impact on people, planet, animals, and community.

Sustainability + Giving Back
Better Bread for People, Animals, and the Planet
Whistler’s mountains, forests, rivers, and seasons remind us every day why sustainability matters. At BReD, we believe a bakery can be part of the solution: by choosing plant-based ingredients, sourcing carefully, reducing waste, supporting local suppliers, and giving back to environmental and animal causes.
Our menu is 100% plant-based, which means no dairy, eggs, meat, or animal-derived ingredients. We choose this because animal agriculture has a significant environmental impact, and because we believe delicious food should not come at the expense of animals.
We source as locally and organically as possible, including organic flour from Anita’s Organic Mill in Chilliwack, Vancouver Island sea salt, Vancouver-roasted coffee, and seasonal produce from farms in Pemberton, Lillooet, Whistler, and the wider Sea to Sky region. Our menu changes with the seasons because we would rather work with what grows closer to home than rely on ingredients shipped from far away.
We also work to reduce waste throughout the bakery. Unsold baked goods are donated wherever possible, food scraps are composted, packaging is plastic-free or compostable where available, and our team is trained to sort waste properly. We continually review our purchasing, production, and packaging choices so we can do better as we grow.
Giving back is built into our business model. We donate 1% of revenue to good causes, especially environmental and animal organizations, and have contributed more than $30,000 in cash donations to date. Through our partnership with Trees for the Future, we plant trees connected to beverage sales, supporting environmental regeneration and farming communities at the same time. Our current site lists 92,499 trees planted.
Sustainability is not a badge we wear once. It is a practice we keep returning to: in our ingredients, our packaging, our team culture, our donations, and the everyday decisions that shape the bakery.

Our Mission
To bake nourishing, naturally leavened, plant-based sourdough and baked goods that people genuinely love — while making veganism feel accessible, joyful, and impactful.
We want people to choose plant-based food not because they feel they have to, but because it tastes great, supports their values, and helps reduce harm to animals and the environment.
We also want BReD to be a workplace where people are supported, trained, respected, and able to grow. Traditional baking takes skill and care, and we believe our team should benefit from the same care we put into our products.
Our Values
Sustainability
We make decisions with the long term in mind. That means reducing food waste, choosing plant-based ingredients, sourcing locally and organically where possible, using responsible packaging, composting, donating, and continually looking for better ways to operate.
Integrity
We do what we say we do. Our commitment to plant-based baking, organic sourcing, giving back, and B Corp standards is not marketing language — it is how we run the bakery.
Respect
We respect animals, the environment, our customers, our team, our suppliers, our community, and the land where we work. We are honoured to bake on the shared unceded territory of the Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation.
Communication
We believe clear, kind communication creates better food, better service, and a better workplace. We aim to be transparent with our team and our customers about what we make, why we make it, and how we can improve.
Accountability
As a certified B Corporation and BC Benefit Company, we measure our impact and hold ourselves to higher standards. We know we are not perfect, but we are committed to tracking progress, learning, and improving.
